Conditioning While You Color

For years, women who colored their hair accepted the ugly fact: Hair color made their hair feel lousy. But few people wanted to give up the glow of golden tresses or the rich disguise of unwanted gray hair. Numerous "after color conditioning" products saturated the market, but were never able to completely alter the condition of the hair, only band aide the damage.

That's no longer the case. The best new colors and lighteners contain conditioning agents that effectively improve hair condition and texture. Joico's professional KPAK Color contains color molecules spun with Keratin protein and their own Quadramine Complex, which consists of four separate proteins that strengthen and smooth hair fiber. These magic ingredients actually penetrate deep into the hair shaft as the color develops.

Blonding elixirs like L'Oreal's Platinium Plus and Redken's Blonde Icing contain ceramide proteins and leave lightened hair looking and feeling strong and healthy.

These salon only products can mean only one thing: That super-charged coloring products will find their way to the consumer market in the almost immediate future. And that's good news for anyone choosing to enhance or change their natural hair color.  thanks to www.dailyglow.com

sun screen for different skin types

Warmer weather means that many of us will be spending more time outdoors and showing some skin. Even if you're not a sun worshipper, you're vulnerable to UV rays when you're driving, walking across a parking lot, or even sitting by a window on a bright sunny day. You'll be more likely to use a sunscreen every day if you find one that feels good on your skin, so here are some of my favorite sun protection products for different skin types:
  • If you have normal-to-dry skin, look for a lotion or cream with hydrating ingredients like glycerin. Try Shiseido Extra Smooth Sun Protection Cream SPF 38 or Neutrogena Spectrum Plus SPF 70 — Jennifer Garner is a fan!
  • If you have oily or acne-prone skin, look for an oil-free sunscreen fluid that dries quickly and won't feel greasy or heavy under your makeup. Clarins UV Plus Day Screen SPF 40 contains zinc oxide to block UVA (aging) rays, and dries to a matte finish. Solbar PF Liquid SPF 30 is lightweight and not sticky.
  • For sensitive skin, look for mineral sunscreen ingredients like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, which are less likely than chemical ingredients to react with your skin and cause irritation. Try Origins Sunshine State Sunscreen SPF 20 with microfine titanium dioxide or Coppertone Sensitive Skin Faces SPF 50, which has no alcohol, dyes, or fragrance that can irritate skin.
Lips can get sunburned too, so don't forget to protect them. A sunscreen stick is easy to reapply and won't leak; plus you can put it in your pocket. Try Banana Boat Ultra Defense Sunscreen Stick SPF 50 or Clinique Sun SPF 45 Targeted Protection Stick.

Top Five Hair Tips

Top Five Hair Tips

No matter what your hair woe—frizz, flatness, gray roots, oiliness, or dandruff—it only takes five simple moves to get gorgeous hair.

FRIZZY HAIR

Frizz is as common as humidity in August. But with these tips, it doesn't have to be.
1. STAY HYDRATED. Frizz occurs when dry hair absorbs water from the air, but cream-based moisturizing shampoo and conditioner can prevent it—just be sure to rinse well so hair doesn't look dull or greasy. And lather up only a few times a week: "The natural oils that accumulate in the meantime are good frizz-fighters," says hairstylist Nathaniel Hawkins.
2. DRY THE RIGHT WAY. To keep waves smooth, apply styling lotion to damp hair, then let it air-dry—and resist the urge to tousle. "The more you put your hands through it, the more likely you are to create frizz," says hairstylist Garren. To make straight hair sleek, point the dryer toward the ends— "going against the grain, even a little, can cause frizz," he says. And keep blow-drying until every bit of dampness is gone.
3. COAT WITH CAUTION. Use silicone drops or spray to combat frizz, but don't overdose. Apply a drop or spritz to your palms first, then rub them together and pat them over frizz, starting at the ends and working toward the crown (you can always add more later).
4. OIL WELL. To further ward off frizz, give your hair a twice-weekly oil treatment (pros like jojoba oil). Work about a tablespoon through dry hair, first with your hands, then with a synthetic-bristle paddle brush (boar bristles would just soak up the oil). Leave it on for as long as possible before shampooing as usual; even five to ten minutes helps.
5. CUT AND COLOR CORRECTLY. Avoid overlayering, which makes short pieces stick out and get fuzzy. If you have coarse or curly hair, stay away from razor cuts, as they rough up the cuticle and exacerbate frizz. By contrast, nearly blunt cuts can help weigh down frizz. As for color, steer clear of a full head of highlights or a solid blonde: "Bleaching deteriorates the outer layer of the hair, making it coarser and frizzier," says Hawkins.   found: allure.com

Hair Growth Tips

Hair Growth Tips

The best strategies for encouraging hair growth

Most people’s hair grows about a half inch every month — and there’s no magic potion that will make your hair grow any faster than that. But there are things you can do to ensure the maximum amount of hair growth each month and a strong, healthy head of hair. Here’s your prescription for healthy hair growth:

Eat a healthy diet. You are what you eat, and eating a healthy diet will make your hair grow healthy and strong. Eat a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits and vegetables, lean proteins like eggs, fish, and nuts, and whole grains. A multivitamin can help you fill in any nutritional gaps to ensure that your body gets all the nutrients it needs to encourage hair growth.

Stay hydrated. Water is essential for keeping hair and skin healthy — be sure you get at least your recommended eight glasses of water each day to promote healthy hair growth.

Protect your health. Many medical issues, including hypo- and hyperthyroidism, can cause hair loss or limit your hair growth. If you’re experiencing hair loss or if your hair appears to have stopped growing, consult your doctor to rule out any underlying medical conditions.

Maintain a healthy lifestyle. Many of the habits that are bad for your body — like smoking, drinking alcohol, and living with a lot of stress — can limit your hair growth or even cause hair loss. Exercise, plenty of sleep, and a varied and nutritious diet can all help your body grow a healthy head of hair.

Care for your hair. Rough treatment — heat from hair dryers or hot irons, constant brushing, coloring, and perms, exposure to the elements — can all damage hair, causing breakage and hair loss. To encourage hair growth, be gentle with your hair. Allow it to air dry, limit chemical treatments, and limit the amount of time you handle your hair.

Moisturize your tresses. Conditioning keeps your hair in tip-top shape and will help stop the damage that causes hair loss. Apply a rich conditioner every time you shower, and supplement it with a hot oil treatment at least once a month.

Give yourself a massage. Give your scalp a quick rubdown weekly to encourage blood flow to the area, which will help get nutrients to your hair.

Get a cut. A haircut may seem like the last thing you need if you’re trying to grow your hair, but frequent trims will help you get rid of split ends, avoid hair breakage, and maintain a healthier head of hair.

Hair Trends fall 2009

Hair Trends Fall 2009: Side Ponytails

Another hair trend this fall is the Side Ponytails for Longer Hair:

Here are 2 versions of the side ponytail. On the left, is Brittany Snow with a loose, wavy side ponytail with side bang and curly tendrils.

A couple good products for this do: Alterna Caviar Smoothing Lotion and Rapid Repair Spray.
  • Towel dry, then rough blow-dry before applying the smoothing lotion from mid-shaft to the ends.
  • Round brush blow dry and then loosely curl the mid-shaft downwards. Brush out some of the waves loosely and then gather at the side of the head into a low ponytail.
The other picture is of the extreme version of the side pony which is higher on the side of the head with straight, sleek shine.

blonds

Study: Blondes Spend More Time Getting Ready Than Brunettes

Researchers found that blondes will take 72 minutes a day on their beauty routine compared to 66 minutes for brunettes. This equates to blondes spending 22 days a year getting ready, compared to 19 for brunettes. (Telegraph)
So I guess Blondes do have more fun! How long do you take getting ready in the morning?

My name is Annesa and I am a licensed cosmotologist at my home salon in Saratoga Springs. I offer the bead in method of extension. Whether you want thickness, color, or length, extensions are the perfect choice!

I use Mongolian and European Human Hair. The difference between the two is the European hair is a little higher of quality which means it is a softer and will last longer. Keep in mind though that the Mongolian hair is still very good hair and is exceptionally soft and the lenght of time they last mainly depends on how well you take care of them.

The bead in method is performed by: looping the bead onto your hair, sliding the extension into the bead, then clamping the bead shut.
